IMPACT-ED kicks off in Namibia

Following the signing of the Grant Agreement by the Coordinator (UNAM) and The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and accession thereto by partner beneficiaries at the end of October 2025, the implementation of the Integrating Mobility, Digital Tools, and Climate Education to Address Terrestrial Plant Diversity and Conservation in a Changing Climate (IMPACT-ED) 101234251 officially commenced on 1 January 2026.

To give effect to orderly and systematic implementation on IMPACT-ED project, the first physical meeting of the project Management Board, constituted by all coordinators in partner institutions, took place in Windhoek. This kick-off meeting hosted by UNAM was held between 26-30 January 2026 in Windhoek at the Arebbusch Travel Lodge and successfully concluded with a day visit to the Gobabeb Namib Research institute.

The meeting discussed and resolved to establish several committees to coordinate scholarship selection process, online modules, curriculum development and botanical garden establishment. Other key aspects deliberated covered the mentoring programme fora, consortium agreement, website, and the upcoming workshop in Nigeria in June 2026.

The Management Board will be meeting during the project in person twice a year, bringing physical meetings to a total of eight for the four-year duration of the project. These will be supplemented by regular online meeting by the Board.
