University of Nigeria (UNN)

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka is a federal university located in Enugu State, Nigeria, with campuses in Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla. Founded in 1955 by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and formally opened on 7 October 1960, UNN was the first indigenous and fully autonomous university in Nigeria, modelled on the American educational system.

UNN comprises 18 faculties and 102 academic departments, offering 108 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programmes. As the first university established by a Nigerian regional government with degree-awarding authority, it remains one of the country’s leading institutions, with a strong tradition of academic excellence, research, and national development.
